The book title “The Love of My Life” drew my attention when I first found it in the library. At first glance, I thought it was simply a love story between a couple, mainly describing how this couple met each other when they were young, how much they loved each other etc. In addition, I felt interested in the occupation of Leo as an obituary writer which meant he had to study and conduct interviews with the families who had just lost their beloved one. His profession seems likes a detective who always like digging in depth, searching for clues and gathering all information to find the truth.

“The Love of My Life”, is a story about a couple who married for many years and had a happy family. Leo, an obituary writer, married Emma who was a well-known Marine Biologist and TV presenter. Both of them were professional and loved each other. When Leo was told that his wife, Emma, was suffering from a serious illness, he was panic. Being an obituary writer, Leo planned to prepare a special obituary for Emma. He started to conduct research to write a story about the life of Emma and this became the turning point of the whole story. When you read more chapters and when the story unfolded, you found that it was not only a romantic story but also a story full of mystery. This couple, either Leo or Emma, both kept secrets from the one they loved and they never expected their other half would discover it one day.

This story was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the marriage and relationship between the couple, and how did Leo discover the lies Emma made to him. The story went smoothly and was very easy to read until a new character, named Emily, showed up in the second half of the book.  The story became very dramatic and full of mystery.

Everyone has their own secret. The secrets is always being kept deep in their heart and they never dare to tell anyone else. But if one day, when you were suffering from serious illness, would you consider to voice out the secret to your family, your children and your friends who you trust? Or do you prefer keeping the secret till you die?  Last but not least, the author aims to bring up the message “As we approach the end of our life, we find ourselves turning toward the things and people that are most meaningful to us so that we may face death with equanimity and courage”, and in the end, how much you are willing to forgive the ones you love?
