If you are a parent, do you remember the different developmental milestones of your children? Crawling, walking, talking, going to school... Do these moments leave a lasting impression on you? Do you find yourself feeling reluctant to see them grow up?
In this heartwarming story, a girl travels overseas by plane to visit her beloved Lao Lao (grandmother in Chinese). During her stay, Lao Lao shares a touching tale about a pink feather:
A girl discovered an egg on a beach. When it hatched, she found it was a flamingo! She raised the flamingo, feeding it, bathing with it, and reading books together. They created sweet memories. However, as time passed, the flamingo grew up and it was time for it to explore the world. The girl took the flamingo to the beach, helping it take flight. It was a success! The flamingo soared away, leaving behind a single feather. The girl patiently waited for its return through the summer and winter.
After the girl returns home, she creates a picture book about the tale and the flamingo's much-anticipated return.
This narrative beautifully illustrates that every child is like their parents' own flamingo. Parents cherish the moments spent with their children but inevitably face the bittersweet process of letting go as they seek their own paths. Although it may feel lonely when they are away, the joy of their return is immeasurable. Life is filled with goodbyes, yet love endures.
The illustrations in the comic are stunning. The author skillfully uses varying brightness in colors to distinguish between the girl's time with Lao Lao and her imagination. With limited dialogue, this comic invites children and parents to use their imagination and own words to bring the story to life.
