When I was young, my friends and I always dreamed what our future careers would be. Some of them would like to be a lawyer, doctor or teacher, etc. I, however, thought they were not my cup of tea and sought the valuable guidance from one of my respectful teachers. She taught me that I should firstly explore more what my passions are rather than just simply follow the favourite trend or vacancies being offered in the job market. It is because career is a life-long matter and selection of a suitable one is essential. Without passion, we would easily get lost or tired after some years.

So, what is my passion? Reading may be the answer as I love books and I used to visit libraries during my leisure time. Therefore, I start to think about how to turn my hobby into a career. Being an author? Or serving as the contributor in processing books? Finally, I chose to be a librarian and now I would like to introduce this book for kids who also love reading.

This book explores the world of different books’ contributors, such as editor, book designer, librarian, etc. and outlines their various roles, relationship among them and their different career paths, including the required qualifications and skills for individual position. The last chapter “More Cool Book Careers” discovers more on other possible choices apart from the position of editor, book designer and librarian as mentioned above.

Throughout the book, the author emphasizes the importance of passion in reading and learning as an essential requirement for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the book industry. She also highlights that serving as a librarian, not only having effective communication and collaboration with colleagues are important, but also with library users or readers. I believe this informative book would provide an inspiration to children who treasure reading and lead them to think more about the possibility of pursuing a career in the book industry.
