The curious case of Benjamin Button: story to screenplay
F. Scott Fitzgerald著

I read this fiction because of the film star, Brad Pitt. Years ago, I saw the film version of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". The protagonist in the film is named Benjamin Button who is casted by Brad Pitt. The storyline of the film is loosely based on the story of the same name written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald who is a famous American novelist and writes an acclaimed fiction "The Great Gatsby". The story is about a man named Benjamin Button who is born under unusual circumstances and has a life resoundingly in reverse - he became younger when he grows older. This fiction contains the story from the author and the screenplay written by Eric Both and Robin Swicord. The original story is short and the screenplay writers did an excellent job for developing the line of screenplay that makes the film come out beautifully.

The original fiction and the film are telling the story of the same man – Benjamin Button and share the same theme - the nature of mortality, love, youth, and to live the life you are given to the best of your ability. But, the setting, the plot and the characters’ development are very different. Finding those differences between the fiction and the film are very interesting! In the fiction, there are quite a lot of paragraphs describing the relationship of Benjamin Button and his father Roger Button (named Thomas Button in the film). In the film, the focus is on the life of Benjamin Button and his love with Daisy (Hildegarde in the story). There are many characters who appear in the film, but not in the fiction.

Film can bring fictions to life through music, sound, visuals and actors. Sometimes, you may find the storyline of the film comes out from important scenes and characters from the fiction. If you read the fiction and go to see the film, you may intend to see a scene that may be cut from the film. Different perspectives for the protagonists you will obtain via different formats. It is quite interesting! If you don’t like reading fictions, try to see the film first. Let’s have a good try and have joyful reading!
