You may read at least one or two books for the translated works for this author Haruki Murakami (村上春樹) who is an internationally acclaimed Japanese author. "The Strange Library" is one of his interesting books which I recommend to you.
The book cover of "The Strange Library" has two large comic eyes staring out that attracted my attention. The first sentence of the book, "The library was even more hushed than usual," arouses our interest for turning the pages of the book. Once you start reading this book, you will find yourselves immersed in the strange world of the author’s wild imagination.
This book describes an unnamed boy who intends to borrow books from a strange and nightmarish library but get imprisoned. The boy visits his local library and asks to borrow books about tax collection in the Ottoman Empire. He is directed to a room in the basement where an old man confronts him. The old man finds three volumes of thick books related to the subject and leads the boy towards the reading room where he will be permitted to read the books there. The boy is ordered to memorize all three volumes of books. If he can’t, the old man intends to eat his brains full with ‘nice and creamy’ knowledge. With the help of a sheep man and a mysterious voiceless girl, will the boy escape from the nightmarish library? You are strongly recommended to borrow this book from the Hong Kong Public Libraries to get the answer and not to miss the last page of the book.
Don’t be afraid to go to our libraries to borrow books! Library staff always welcome you and there is no such basement in our libraries.
