Good music never gets old. When I was a kid, the adults around me played different kinds of music, Paula Tsui, George Lam, the Carpenters, Boney M, ABBA, Billy Joel, Queen, Bee Gees, among others. Now I am quite old, and still enjoy good music.

This book features 40 pop and rock stars or groups who rose to fame from the 60s to the current days. Brief biographies and fun facts are presented over a two-page spread, including sidebars, illustrations and a cartoon version of the act. From my point of view, the cartoon versions of David Bowie and Michael Jackson are particularly cute and recognizable. As a longtime fan, I was thrilled to see Depeche Mode in the book. This band is so unique, talented and well deserved. Famous female singers, like Madonna and Beyoncé, are also on the list.

Young readers will know more about the development of pop and rock in the past decades. It is also a nice book to introduce children to some of the most iconic musicians, while probably some are their parents’ idols too. I always think it is wonderful to pass on a love of music from generation to generation. Imagine the little ones singing “we will, we will rock you”, or “let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be, there will be an answer, let it be”.
