By Jodi Picoult

Introduction by Librarian

You don’t love someone because they’re perfect . . . You love them in spite of the fact that they’re not.” – "My Sister’s Keeper" by Jodi Picoult

"My Sister’s Keeper" tells the story of 13-year-old Anna who sues her parents for medical emancipation as she is asked by them to donate one of her kidneys to her elder sister, Kate who is suffering from acute leukemia. Anna is identified as a bone marrow match for Kate. To save Kate’s life, Anna has undergone countless surgeries and transfusions since childhood. Anna is usually willing to do whatever she can help to save Kate’s life. But as the kidney surgery is not risk-free, Anna decides to sue her parents for the rights to her body, though this decision will tear her family apart.

"My Sister’s Keeper" is a thought-provoking and controversial story. It offers illuminating insights into the meanings of good parents, good sisters and good persons. Is it correct for the parents to do anything to save their child’s life, even if to risk another child’s life? Is it correct for the children to follow their own hearts instead of doing what their parents tell them to do? There are no easy answers to these questions. People have different perspectives. But it is important to stand in others’ shoes as this can broaden our perspective and show caring and respect for others.

What will happen to Anna’s family? Will they resolve their family conflicts? Read this novel and you will get the answers.
