Dare to lead: brave work, tough conversations, whole hearts

Introduction by Librarian
When discussing leadership, we often talk about authority and superiority. An ideal leader, like a superhero, is supposed to be powerful and fearless. Yet, Brené Brown, the author of the book, tells the story from another angle. A leader, in Brown’s definition, is “anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential”. It is not about being strong by yourself, but building a team with trust that courageously grows together.
"Dare To Lead" gives readers a new perspective on leadership. Throughout this book, there are many helpful strategies that can make you a better leader. The author explains that daring leadership requires four sets of skills, including rumbling with vulnerability, living into your values, braving trust, and learning to rise.
An inspirational point from the book is that you can never be courageous without being vulnerable. Vulnerability is not a sign of weakness. Instead, it is about taking off your “armor” to face your fears and emotions honestly. The author highlights the need for leaders to understand shame and vulnerability as no one can become a good leader without these traits.
No one is born fearless. No one is born a leader. Courage can be taught and developed. Reading this book will be a starting point to become a true leader.
