Introduction by Librarian

Miranda: “You have no sense of fashion.” Andy: “I think that depends on…” Miranda: “No, no, that wasn’t a question.”

Miranda: "Details of your incompetence do not interest me."

Miranda: "Is there some reason that my coffee isn't here? Has she died or something?"

If you are a fan of luxury brands or high fashion industry, "The Devil Wears Prada" won’t disappoint you. To me, I am the fan of Meryl Streep. After watching the adaptation movie with the same name of this fiction, I picked up the book as I wanted to explore more of the characters and the story.

"The Devil Wears Prada" gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to complaints about “The Boss from Hell”. The story is about Andrea Sachs, a recent college graduate, seeking a job for journalism in New York City, but the search isn’t going well. However, Andrea gets a chance to take a job at a prestigious “Runway” magazine as an assistant to the legendary fashion editor, Miranda Priestly, which 'a million girls would die for'. In an attempt to fast-track her way up the career ladder, Andrea takes the job and thinks that what she needs to do is to survive for one year, one year with the boss from hell and she can get any job she's ever dreamed of by getting the recommendations from this nasty boss.

Not to mention, with 24-hour phone calls with ridiculous barked orders from Miranda, who is ungrateful, rude, spoiled and does not accept her employees, especially her assistant, making any mistakes. Andrea’s relationships with her boyfriend, best friend and family as well as her self-esteem begin to suffer, and even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not the job is worth the price of her soul.

In real life, most people also have this dilemma, “Do you dream to achieve or do you achieve your dream?” This is a good question to ask yourself, especially when reading this book and the situation that Andrea faces.

"The Devil Wears Prada" is an entertaining book. On the one hand, you will sympathize with Andrea to face such a tough boss, on the other hand, is there someone like Miranda in the real world? Don't just watch the movie, read the book and find a friend for life, or at least, until it goes out of fashion......
