Parenting is an amazing experience and signing with your baby can enhance communication for both of you. When my son was just two months old, he could only express himself through babbling, cooing, giggling and crying as he was not able to speak yet. I always tried to understand his thoughts and feelings, therefore strived to learn how to communicate with him in meaningful two-way interactions.
Many parents nowadays are eager to communicate with their babies at an earlier stage, leading to a growing interest in baby sign language. This book is an easy-to-use illustrated guide for new parents. It provides 50 essential American Sign Language (ASL) and techniques tailored to different age ranges, according to children’s development and signing milestones.
Some parents may worry that learning baby sign language means that they need to spend time learning another new language, but this is not true. ASL is just gestures or expressions that add to the conversation when you talk to your baby. In fact, signing comes naturally to babies. They instinctively point to things they want without needing to learn sign language.
Babies who sign with their parents and caregivers enjoy many benefits, including speaking sooner, developing larger vocabularies and improving their motor skills. Most importantly, signing fosters a close bond between parents and their children. Here are some examples of ASL signs:
This means “Hug”

This means “I love you.”

The vibrant colour illustrations, paired with helpful descriptions, effectively show and explain each sign. In addition, this book offers valuable advice and tips on engaging activities that help convey your baby’s needs, wants and feelings.
Start signing with your baby today and embark on a rewarding journey filled with joy and a deeper understanding of your child’s needs and emotions!
